Foundations on coal

(OP)
Hello,

I was wondering if anybody has any information about building in coal zone area. Our subsurface investigation indicate weathered rock to 40 feet and a coal seam between 40 and 50 feet and rock again. No indications of voids left by possible past mining activities. We will be building a 3 story building (slab-on-grade)... I am not sure how much we should we worry about the coal seam. Does anyone has any reference O can use to improve my knowledge about building on coal zones?

Thanks for your help

File a mining claim and forget the building.

RE: Foundations on coal

For a low set building, I wouldn't worry unless you have reason to believe that coal mining will eventuate.

Or a coal fire
