How long would it take...

How long would it take...

How long would it take...

I have very rough hand drawing of a chair that I would like to have CAD drawn in 3D before going forward with manufacturing a sample.  Can someone give me a rough idea how long it should take a pro to do both 3D and actual lay out for manufacturing?  And how do I go about finding someone to do it?

Thanks for your help,
Vic

RE: How long would it take...

Not knowing anything else, it would have to be an unusual design if it took less than four hours, or more than 16 hours.

Have you considered a local university or trade school? Or, the intended manufacturer of the chair may have a drafter whose work they can recommend.

RE: How long would it take...

The 3D effort of a chair shouldn't take that long. It can take anywhere from 3 hours to 8 hours depanding on the detail of the 3D model.

The layout of demensioning for construction can take another 4 hours of annotation and demensioning and plotting.

Then add another 1 or so to look over the drawing to make sure you haven't missed anything.  Then another 30 minutes to pick up the last bit of mark ups.

RE: How long would it take...

If you're talking a three legged stool it shouldn't take more than an hour, although most would probably charge you a three hour minimum. If you're talking a reclining vibrating leather lounger and you want full dimensional and assembly drawings for all the parts and fabrics, you may be looking at a couple of weeks worth.

Thank you all for your feedback.  Real appreciated.

RE: How long would it take...

In Mechanical Desktop it probably wouldn't be a long project. Also, once it is modeled, 2d views and annotations are very fast on something as uncomplicated as a non-pmechanical chair. True 3d modeling takes the guesswork out and saves time and money.
