Bolt thread calcs following Bickford books û metric?

Bolt thread calcs following Bickford books û metric?

Bolt thread calcs following Bickford books û metric?

(OP)
For those who already have calculated engagement length and shear area and such according to the Bickford books, where have you found your data?
Problem is as follows: Knmax (max. ID of nut), Dsmin (minimum OD of bolt threads) and Enmax (max. PD of nut) among others, aren't given in ISO 724 (google for ISO bolt dimension => google images!).
The numbers given there are nominal, not min or max.

I don't think there will be a great difference using those numbers, however for those of you that have dealt with this before, all opinions are welcome!

I have got the 24th edition of machinist's handbook at home, but I doubt that book will give help on this.

Many thanks in advance...

It's in there (at least in English units). For example
Machinery's Handbook 27TH edition pager 1736 "Table 3. Standard Series and Selected Combinations — Unified Screw Threads"

kingnero,

For metric fasteners, VDI 2230 has equations to use for calculating engagement length.  I have shown some of them in this thread: thread725-35222: Tensile capacity/minimum engagement

For the dimensions you show above, the tolerances are in micrometers, so you can use nominal values from ISO 724 without issue.

Thanks for your link. Will try that tomorrow.

It seems I really need a copy of VDI 2230... If only i could get my boss to order... I've been buying enough books personally lately (although I keep telling myself it's a wise investment) but if I recall correctly VDI 2230 was around 180 € (?). That's just a bit too high to defend at home...

RE: Bolt thread calcs following Bickford books û metric?

Machinery Handbook 26 pg1490-1491 had formuale (1) thru (6)for engagement length of external thread and corrections for engagement length for internal thread if its material is softer than the external thread material.
