Sheet format and custom properties

Sheet format and custom properties

(OP)
I've looked for answers to these questions which I thought would be easy to find, but I've had no luck.  Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Two separate questions really:

First, we use multiple sheets for our drawings.  Typically sheet 1 is the assembly, and the following sheets detail all parts used in the assembly.  We have a field built into our standard sheet format for tracking the assembly's revision letter.  Right now we have to manually update every sheet individually.  Is there any way to link the field from the first sheet to the remaining sheets?  Or is there a macro that will write to every sheet in the drawing file?

Second, is there any way to copy custom properties from one part to multiple other parts after the parts have been made?  If I'm diligent I just start with one part and then copy that to make my other parts after the custom properties are entered.  Sometimes I forget and have to enter basically the same custom properties on numerous parts....tedious!

Thanks for any help you can provide it's appreciated.  Even if you can just point me in the right direction I would be grateful.  I'm not very familiar with macros in Solidworks, but I'm confident with a little time I can figure them out.

Thanks

RE: Sheet format and custom properties

First ... the multiple sheet revision ... create a "Rev" custom prop at the drawing properties level, and have the sheets reference that.

Second ... copy custom properties ... FAQ559-1429: How To Change Or Manage Document Properties And Templates. has loads of links to property management macros and utilities.

Either or both of the following should be suitable.

Copy Custom Info macro from http://www.esoxrepublic.com/freeware/index.html

mac_copydoc.zip from http://swtools.cad.de/macros.htm

Cor, thanks for the quick response.  I'll try them as soon as I can.  I appreciate the help!

RE: Sheet format and custom properties

If you're using the assembly to drive the properties for all of the sheets you may look at adding properties to the drawing and use those to fill out the titleblock.  You could definetly automate that by pulling the properties from your assembly to the sheet without having to re-enter as well.
