Blueprint Modelling on NX4

Blueprint Modelling on NX4

Blueprint Modelling on NX4

(OP)
Hi there everyone,

This is going to sound like a really idiotic question, but is it possible to design a vehicle from a set of blueprints in NX4?

I am new to the world of UGS, and have no clue where to start... Checked the NX4 Cast documents but have come up dry there.

Hope to hear from anyone soon.

Regards
Jared

RE: Blueprint Modelling on NX4

If you are new to NX and you don't have access to formal training or someone who can mentor you, I would look into the CAST (Computer Assisted Training) material which you can purchase from Siemens PLM Software.  But even before that it might be useful to go to the NX Help files and review the contents of the section titled "Discovering NX".  You will find several topics, many of them using multimedia examples, which will help you better understand how to go about using NX to design your products.

1) Vehicle yes. ( and no, complex freeform shapes such as automotive body panels are very difficult to recreate based on blueprints.)
2) Could you try explain what it is you want to do ?

RE: Blueprint Modelling on NX4

Do you have any other experience in a 3D CAD system?

@John: Thank you for your response, I will look into the help files later tonight.

@Toost: I am trying to model my car's body so that I can design wheel arch flares to create a mold to make them out of carbon fibre. And after that to design custom adjustable suspension pieces as well, to get them cnc machined.

@jerry: If Autodesk 3DS Max 2010 counts as CAD (i'm guessing it doesn't), then yes. If not, then no...

Thanks for the responses guys!

If you are a member of SEMA, at the manufactures level, and the car is a Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, or Scion, you can get 3D data from the OEM.

The next suggestion, would be a 3D scan of the fender areas.
