Can surface compression by glassbead blasting cause plastic deformation on a bronze alloy brg with 12" dia. and .115 wall thickness? Air pressure 100-130 lbs with "H" or 100 size bead.Alloy Cu87%,Al6.2,Fe1.1%,Sn3.2,Zn.7 Thanks for any help in advance.

RE: surface compression

Yes

RE: surface compression

The secret is the standoff distance that changes with air pressure and bead size.  We found a world of difference between glass bead manufacturers.  Some brands we could get only 40% recovery while others we got up 75% recovery.

You might want to checkout Shotpeener for information about glass bead blasting and other processes.general.

Wow, shotpeen and its effects are a science in itself.I am guessing through some experiments that the surface compression is causing unpredictable out of round conditions-plastic deformation by shrinking the material.Though there is probably some structural weakening I would like to repair it by pressing it onto a die and cutting the o.d. round again.I could really use some expert advice. Thanks for any input.
