Sheet-metal loft bend

Sheet-metal loft bend

Sheet-metal loft bend

(OP)
Hello

I have a rather simple sheetmetal part I've been trying to model for some while now. The problem is the transition from a square scetch to a circular, and then to be able to continue using other features like edge flange. See attachment...

I've tried loft bend, and converting a regular model to sheet metal.

I'm using Solidworks 2009 for this.

Thankyou for any helpful tips.

RE: Sheet-metal loft bend

Create the flat section, then add a sketch line on the edge of the flat where you want the bends. Add the flange where the sketch is. Add the fillet later.

RE: Sheet-metal loft bend

Why not attach the *.sldprt of whatever you were able to complete?

ctopher, sorry but I don't really get what you're saying.

The closest i can get to the shape i want, is with using the sheetmetal loft bend, the problem is that the edges of this shape is not planar, therefore using features to further build on this is not possible.

I attached a a part that shows the shape i want, the problem is i cannot put a edge flange at the flat end, and the extended circular area is not merged with the other body. (the dims are not important)

RE: Sheet-metal loft bend

I don't think it will be possible to unfold this model in SWx.

RE: Sheet-metal loft bend

I tried several methods, it will not flatten the loft transition to the tube.

With this I think your best bet is to draw out the flat and use sketch bend. It will get you closest to the shape you want. However you still won't be able to put that edge flange on the end.

Okay, I also have tried many different strategies, nothing seems to work out like i want. Please bump if someone finds a trick to do this one.

Thanks anyway for the effort!
