I would request help tracking down this article:

Matlock, H., and Reese, L. C.  (1960).  "Generalized solutions for laterally loaded piles."
ASCE Journal of Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 86(SM5), 63-91.

I have tried the ASCE website and also the document library at my local uni and British library direct. Thus far nothing.

Please do not scan this paper and post, I need to purchase this article from a copyright.

If someone can point me in the direction of an appropriate source with a way to order, it would be appreciated.

RE: Journal of Soil Mechanics and Foundations

RE...Dr. Reese died last year, but his consulting firm survives.  Contact Ensoft in Austin, Texas (http://www.ensoftinc.com/) .  They likely have copies of his papers.  If not, the University of Texas at Austin, Department of Civil Engineering, will probably have a copy.

Good luck.

Thanks Ron, thought you would know.

RE: Journal of Soil Mechanics and Foundations

Another resource - older geotechnical firms like Shannon and Wilson, Golders, Law Engineering (or whoever really took thme over) might actually have the journals that you can borrow.  I would be surprised if Cornell or MIT didn't have the journal.  Although I haven't heard from him for a long time, Focht3 would probably have it as well (San Antonio).

RE: Journal of Soil Mechanics and Foundations

BigH/RE...when I was at Law Engineering, our local branch had an excellent library, particularly for Geotechnical stuff.  I'll check and see if they have that particular jounal.  I know they have copies back into the 1960's, but I don't know about that far back. The local branch office opened in 1958.  It is now Mactec Consulting and Engineering.
