Estimating Gas Flow Rate from Produced Water Degasser

Estimating Gas Flow Rate from Produced Water Degasser

Estimating Gas Flow Rate from Produced Water Degasser

(OP)
I would like to estimate gas evolved in a produced water degasser.  The degasser is located on an offshore platform.  Produced water is fed from the the a three phase production separator, which operates at a pressure of 15 barg.  The water then enters the degasser where it is degassed, with any evolved gas being routed to flare.

My query is, how can i estimate the gas flow rate in the degasser?

Normally, i would use a process simulator to estimate gas / water separation.  However, simulation in Hysys suggests no gas will be evolved in the vessel.

RE: Estimating Gas Flow Rate from Produced Water Degasser

HYSYS cannot take pH of water into account, and this can be of huge importance when having H2S/CO2/NH3 and similar gases in the produced water. You may try to find documentation for similar projects, whether offshore or onshore, and compare process conditions vs. amount of released gases. For hydrocarbon gases you can get ballpark figures by using some form of Henry's law.
