Virtual components, possible to add to vault?

Virtual components, possible to add to vault?

Virtual components, possible to add to vault?

(OP)
I'm trying to come up with an easier way for our designers to add parts to assemblies which aren't easily, or impossible, to model in Inventor. These are components like thread-locking compound, sealants, lock-wire, etc. To attempt to model them would be ludicrous.

We have decided that virtual components are the simplest and most stable way to do this. Unfortunately, with every new assembly made, the necessary virtual components will have to be added over and over. My question: is it possible to save these virtual components to a location in the vault, so they can be "dropped" into an assembly like a normal part? Thus eliminating the need to create them and add their iProperties over and over?

As always, thank you for your help.

RE: Virtual components, possible to add to vault?

Just create a new Assembly template with those already in it and when you need to start an assembly that needs them, use that template instead of the default system templates.

Also, to place them in an existing assembly just drag and drop from one assembly to another.

RE: Virtual components, possible to add to vault?

Yes just make a new assembly file (not a template) and create all your virtual components in that. Then you simply copy and paste from that file anytime you need to use a virtual component in another file. Placing the virtual components in your template files is fine too assuming you are always using those virtual parts. If not then you are doing a lot of deleting what you don't need and risk the chance of having something show in your bom that doesn't need to be there.
