How To Run UG Convert
How To Run UG Convert
(OP)
I'm trying to convert a part file from mm to inches and have found several threads stating that ug_convert_part can be used. The thread below gives an expanation of the options within ug_convert but due to a combination of me being stupid and having virtally no experience of using command window prompts I can't figure out exactly what I need to type in.

Extract from this thread:
ug_convert_part -mm|-in -[o s u uo x y] [-o <dirname>] <part_name>|-d <dirname>
Options in brackets are not required. Options separated by the pipe character `|' mean that you must provide either the option before the pipe or the option after the pipe, but not both. The first set of options, -mm | -in, denotes the units you are converting to, and are not optional. You must either use -mm to convert to millimeters or -in to convert to inches.
d -Sets current directory as the source
-d <dirname> -Sets the directory <dirname> as the source
-in -Converts to inch units
-mm -Converts to metric units
-o <dirname> -Sets the directory <dirname> as the destination
-s -Traverses subdirectories
-u -Converts UDFs (user defined features)
-uo -Converts only UDFs (user defined features)
-x -Exports the annotated expressions to a <filename>.exp_txt file
-y -Converts entire assembly
My metric part is called ug_seed_mm and is located in c:\ug_seed_parts.
I start the command window from Start > All Programs > UGS NX 5.0 > NX Tools > Command Prompt
To change the working directory to c:\ug_seed_parts I type in pushd c:\ug_seedparts (the cd command doesn't seem to work, I read online that this is something to do with Windows XP)
The next part of running ug_convert is what I can't figure out....
Obviously the command starts with
ug_covert_part -in...............
Can anyone explain what I need to enter to select the above file from its location and convert it to inches please?
Thanks

Ideally the ug_convert_part process would give the inch version a new name but I could do this manually after the conversion.
Thanks.
RE: How To Run UG Convert
Then run the command like this from the command prompt window:
ug_convert_part -in c:\ug_seed_parts\ug_seed_in.prt
This assumes it is a seed file for creating individual parts, no assembly structure and not a udf.
If you set your current directory to c:\ug_seed_parts, you can eliminate that from the command line.
There is a utility posted that will do the ug_convert_part in a GUI.

RE: How To Run UG Convert
My UG installation doesn't seem to have the user documentation that JohnRBaker mentions, I've already looked for it a few times. I'm running a genuine setup but whoever did the original installation hasn't installed the help files, this is fairly typical of what out IT dept does as I've had the same issue with ProE in the past
