Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

(OP)
The ISO 9001 certificate is issued for 3 years after which recertification has to be done. recently, I have come across ISO certificate issued for a period of ten years from the date of issue. I tried to get clarification from issuing body but could not succeed. Is it possible to issue ISO certificate with a validity of ten years?

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Interesting that the issuing body would not (could not) give you an explanation. Generally the shorter the certification validity the more repeat audit work for that body.

But beyond what period of time between audits do you think  an original issue certifacte cannot describe the current situation of a documented QMS. I think a year is usual and even generally expected.

ndeguy,

you are right. That's the reason i am surprised looking at 10 year validity.

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Does anybody knows manufacturing companies in Europe for smart pigs? I am looking for Inspection Pigs for piping networks throught Magnetic Fields or other.

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Start a new thread Meletis and I'd say this is the wrong forum- Pipeline, piping and fluid mechanics engineering would be more appropriate.

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Back to the original topic, every place I've worked there was an annual audit.  I'm suspicious of even 3 years.

One of the reason the automotive industry got away from 9001 was that slip shod auditing companies were handing out certificates to anybody willing to shell out the $$$.  The TS16949 registrars are much more tightly controlled.

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

I have seen plenty of companies with no discernable QA system pass the 9001 audit.  Including my last, a major inspection & testing company.

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

Debating whether to staff an ISO audit internally or contracting an iso auditor due to schedule constraints.

Has anyone used an outside company for said services?  The only company I've found on google ads is Quality Auditing LLC (www.qualityauditingllc.com)  I'm very interested in finding reputable companies to quote against one another.

Thanks
Stan

RE: Validity of ISO 9001 certification.

The principles behind ISO 9001 are:
1) The standard requires the organization itself to audit itself
2) the organization may invite its clients to audit
3) the organization may engage the services of an independent quality system certification body

Refer to: http://www.iso.org/iso/iso_catalogue/management_and_leadership_standards/quality_management/iso_9000_essentials.htm

Based on point 3 above, the organization may certify itself daily if they so choose, and the money of course.
