Inserted Part Question

Inserted Part Question

Inserted Part Question

(OP)
I have an automated Master Model set up, with an inserted part.  The inserted part has 143 configurations.  It is already mated in place, and I need to automate the master model so that the inserted part configuration changes with changes in the Master Model.

Right now...for instance...if the pipe diameter that the inserted part is mated to changes...I have to manually change the configuration of the inserted part.  This defeats the purpose of the Master Model approach.  The only way I can find to change the configuration of an inserted part is to right mouse click on the inserted part, select List External References, then change the configuration.

I need to find some way to do this in an automated manner.

I have a feeling that this may require API programming, or some sort of KBE software...which is the way we are heading eventually...but I would like to find out how to make it work with out current capabilities.

SW2010, SP4.

Thanks for any ideas you might have..

RE: Inserted Part Question

I think I already found the answer in Lombards Book.  $configuration@<part name> !  I can drive it with my design table directly.  Very slick.  This works amazingly well.  The master model (with 120+ features!) is driven by a layout sketch, and changes to the layout sketch, if driven by a design table, will result in the inserted part updating automatically so that it adjust perfectly to changes in the overall part design...
