Obsolete Assemblies -- SE V20

Obsolete Assemblies -- SE V20

Obsolete Assemblies -- SE V20

(OP)
We are using SE V20 along with Insight Server on Windows 2003 with Sharepoint services 2.0.

When we try to make an assembly obsolete, it won't work unless the child parts are also obsolete.  Obviously, this is less than ideal considering that the child parts do not always need a new revision.  I've seen this brought up in various other posts that say that there is no way around this problem, (aside from renaming the revisions of the child parts back to their original name), but those go back to 2007.

I'm wondering if this issue was cleared up in V20?  If so, how do I make it work?

If it wasn't fixed in V20, is the problem resolved in ST2 or ST3?

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.
