Understanding surface plastic deformation
Understanding surface plastic deformation
(OP)
Hello all,
I am hoping to start a discussion on surface deformation and Shakedown theory. I know that if a material is loaded beyond its yeild strength then shakedown theory can be applied to studying the material behaviour under cyclic loading.
For materials in contact if the sub surface stress does not reach yeild, however, the surface asperities undergo plastic deformation under contact then can Shakedown theory still apply in this case.
Thanks

Does anyone have any input on this?
