Working with Imported Geometry

(OP)
Hi,

I'm trying to work imported geometry - .stl's, igs, parasolids, etc.

How can I use this geometry, extract cross-sections or profiles from it?  Currently, I have an .stl file that I imported into NX & would like to get some cross-sections, but I'm not able to pick anything.

Do I need to convert this into another CAD file format?

What's the preferred file type to work within NX?

Thanks

RE: Working with Imported Geometry

An .stl file is a faceted representation and needs to be converted into a solid/surface model first.  If you're getting this file from a customer or vendor, ask for something along the lines of STEP or IGES, or ideally, Parasolid instead of the .stl.
