Normalizing Field Outputs

Normalizing Field Outputs

Normalizing Field Outputs

(OP)
Hello All,

I've found a lot of helpful information on this forum in the past but now I have come up against a wall. I would like to visualize the nodal displacements of a 2-part assembly as a result of "load-scenario 2" relative to the deformed geometry resulting from "load-scenario 1". Basically, I deform the structure with one load set, and then from there, I'd like to keep the stresses and strains but declare the nodal positions to be zero (or the starting position) so I can see how the structure deforms as a result of the 2nd load-scenario.

Another way to describe it: take a part, put a force on it somewhere and it deforms. Now add a 2nd force on it somewhere else. I want to see a contour plot of the nodal displacements that result only from that 2nd force.

This seems like it should be a simple thing done in the CAE post processing, just zeroing a field output. The loading scenarios can be in different steps so it would be great if I could just take the nodal positions at the start of a specific step to be the new "undeformed" configuration upon which all future displacement values are based.

I've tried importing parts from the ODB but that only does the imported geometry without the stresses and strains.

I've also tried using pre-defined fields also taking information from the ODB but the deformation speed vs. wave speed problem crops up even before the 2nd load case is applied.

There are two parts, one tie constraint, and it's all in Abaqus/Explicit.

Thanks for your time.
Cheers,
Henry

RE: Normalizing Field Outputs

Hello Henry,

Abaqus CAE has got a feature to create new field outputs by manipulation of results which You have in odb file.
I believe You can use that option to do your task.
A lot information how to use that feature You can find in Abaqus CAE User's Manual in chapter 40.6 Creating new field output.

Barten

Thank you Barten.  I previously thought only history outputs could be modified like that.  It's good to know field outputs can be modified with boolean operations as well!  At first glance, it looks like the operations produce only one resultant frame and I would like to look at many to see a dynamic respone.  This gives me many more things to try.  Thank you.

Regards,
Henry
