Replace Feature in NX7.5.2

Replace Feature in NX7.5.2

Replace Feature in NX7.5.2

(OP)
Hi,
In the attached NX file, I'm trying to replace the features:
1.body(5)2_NPF_SHELL(2)
2.patch(6)1_NPF_SHELL(2)

With the feature Shell(2).

The replace result fails to update downstream dependencies of blend, and the following information appears:

I sent this problem to GTAC, and they opened an ER for it.
The file name is the IR/ER number.

I'm posting this here since this looks to me like pretty simple replace operation, and I'm not sure I've done it correctly. Can any of you replace the features without getting the "recreate feature because a parent has been deleted" update error?

Do you have similar problem with replace feature?
For John:
Do you think this ER should be converted to PR?

Thank you

RE: Replace Feature in NX7.5.2

Tomer,

the reason you got the warning was because you applied the blend on the edges of the Body and Patch feature, so when you supress them the reference edges dissapear. To solve this you first need to deselect the edges in the Blend features and reattach them to the edges of the Shell feature.
Is this what you mean? See attach example.

Best regards,

Michaël.

Michaël,

Thanks for the replay,
The part is only an example part that shows that the replace feature does not work as I think it should. I know how to manually reattach the edges of the blend, I think the main benefit of the replace feature is that is should do it automatically.

RE: Replace Feature in NX7.5.2

Michaël, you've hit the nail on the head; without at least some user intervention, there is no practical way to assure that the correct edges are being assigned to the correct blend.  Therefore, if someone expects the system to be able to do this automatically, then this is, by definition, an ENHANCEMENT.

BTW, the "main benefit of replace feature" is that it allows you to insert a new feature at the desired point in the model's 'history tree' without having to manually roll the model back and then forward again.  The fact that you may need to perform some 'fix-up' is just the price you pay for keeping the code simple and reliable.
