Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

(OP)
Using CATIA V5R18;

I dimension a circle's diameter. Now I would like to add a second line to that existing dimension to add a counterbore's diameter & depth, Can this be done?

Any response will be greatly appreciated!

RE: Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

You can use fake dimensions but this will not be updated when you will do some modifications in your drawing so be careful when you use it (if your company standards allow this).

Or you can create text but you will have same disadvantage (if you really want to do it in this way).

RE: Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

Right Click on the desired dimension & select Properties.
Select the Dimension Texts tab, under Associated Tests there is a call out of "Main Value" with open fields above & below, R/H & L/H. In one of those fields you can put in the C'bore info (or any thing else desired).

I tried the "Right-click", "Properties". That seems to be the closest thing.
*How do I insert symbols?
*How do I align the dimension text after it has shifted into the leader?

RE: Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

Here is a picture of the Properties Menu open to the Dimension Texts Tab. Note the open fields around "Main Value". This example shows text below the main value (see dim on dwg to left of menu). CATIA V5 won't allow insert of symbols in these fields. Also, not much control on align except for spaces, and that doesn't allways work very well.

RE: Adding Text Lines To An Existing Dimension

This is one of those weak areas of CATIA V5.

I just add a Text for the second line or third line. Add symbols using the special symbols panel in the top menu.

Then add a Positional link and Orientation link to the Text, so the text moves with the dimension.

It would be nice if CATIA would automatically dimension holes with all CBORE/CSINK/THREAD info.

How To Add Text To An Existing Dimension

1.    Click on "Text"
2.    Click on the dimension you wish to add the text to (Text Editor Box Appears)
3.    Type the text in the "Text Editor Box" including symbols with the "Insert Symbols" icon
4.    click OK
5.    Repeat the steps if you wish to add more lines, except for step 3, click on the last created text.

Hope this helps!
