Starting over with feeds&speeds

Starting over with feeds&speeds

Starting over with feeds&speeds

(OP)
At this time we are now starting with NX7.5 CADCAM, giving us the opportunity to organise things better/new from the start. This should also include the definition of feeds and speeds. We are a die&mold company, machining mainly 1 [sometimess a second] type of partmaterial, with an average of 40 tools [same on 15 CNC-milling machines] using predefined operations in a template [up to NX7 at least]. Sometimes we need to switch a certain operation to another tool, and to reduce errors, we would like to make things like F/S automatic, depending on tool/part. What is the easiest and best way to do so, is it possible to attach a speed/feed to a tool or other parental object of an operation, or is it necessary to cover this with the machining-data-library? If it is the last, anyone a good tip/roadmap to setup properly? Or even using a third parties plugin to deal with it?

Thanks in advance,

Bert

RE: Starting over with feeds&speeds

First you can't really assign a feed/speed to a tool (at least directly). The machining data library is where you'd set this up along with templates. That said, if you have the backing of the employer to do this (or you are the man...), I'd recommend the Cam Customization course. I've not had the chance to take it but I hear it's very helpfull. I've worked in several places now that refuse to go down this road due to "not enough time..." Taking the course will give you a huge short cut.

Hi Bill, what are the possibilities to attach feeds&speeds to a tool.
Can this only be done maybe in the postprocessor using a specific toolname or are there more options?

RE: Starting over with feeds&speeds

You can edit the Machine data libraries - Tools - Edit Machining Data Libraries.  From here you set spicific sppeds, feeds, stepover and depth of cut for a library tool or for a range of tool sizes based on material, method etc.  Far too much to discuss here.  I would recommend reading the help docs and the section on customizing your cam environment. If you can take a class on customization then it will be well worth it.
