Wetted surface of partially filled F-D heads on horizontal vessels
Wetted surface of partially filled F-D heads on horizontal vessels
(OP)
I've tried several searches to find either an analytical or empirical method to derive the wetted surfaces of torispherical heads on a partially filled horizontal vessel, with no luck so far. It's safe to presume that the key vessel dimensions (inside diameter; crown radius; knuckle radius; liquid depth) are all established.
I've seen a number of sources that give the partially Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I can't think you'd need the number except for heat transfer or fire exposure calculations, both of which are pretty approximate at best. That being the case, I'd be inclined to take the total head area and prorate it like it was a disk.

Or you could add it up in pieces: Volume of a partial torus for the knuckle radius, Volume of a spherical cap for the crown radius, etc.
