Can someone estimate the power required to drive a modern, everyday automobile air conditioner compressor, R134, assuming a 90 degree F ambient temperature. Ball Park figures welcomed.

Given the 5" or so pulley sizes, that much HP can easily be transmitted by a single v-belt at the RPM involved.

Otherwise, it is a matter of doing some research to see if you can determine the "average" tonnage that your "everyday" car requires and then do the thermodynamic calculations along with some reasonable assumptions about compressor efficiency, etc.
That is my tip - I don't do math on this site (do that for my day job.)

5 hp is way more than the Sanden 508 takes from what the AC people say. A single 3/8 belt lasts forever if it is tensioned right and in alignment with the pulleys.
