Nozzle reinforcement

Dear All,
i am new at this forum and new in Design field.
I would like to know when Nozzle required Reinforcement.
i think this is very basic Que.
but i would appreciated if anybody reply appropriate.
Thanks

RE: Nozzle reinforcement

Samkor,

Welcome to fabulous world of pressure vessel engineering.

Reinforcement is not for nozzle it is for the cut out made in shell/head. To put it very few words we can safely say that it is replacement of area lost due to cut out made in shell/head.

RE: Nozzle reinforcement

Usually, the design code used specifies when reinforcement of nozzles or other openings is required.

RE: Nozzle reinforcement

If you're doing Section VIII, Div 1, take a look at the exemptions granted & restrictions placed in UG-36(c)(3).

Thanks a lot.........now i understand what is nozzle reinforcement.

RE: Nozzle reinforcement

It is possible to simplify the reinforcement calc's:  make the repad from the same material & thickness as the shell.  Then calc the area of the hole inside your nozzle.  Then calc a 'donut' torroid of the same [or slightly more] area.  You have now fully reinforced the penetration, by "replacing the hole".

RE: Nozzle reinforcement

That is essentially what you are doing, but with the additional excess head/shell, neck and weld areas.

the code and the user wants to see the calc.
