pressure reservoir needed

(OP)
I am going to use a 40mm bore short stroke double acting cylinder at high speeds. I would use an air mainline in a lab at 6 bar .. or alternatively a portable compressor.

Someone told me that I might need a reservoir between the 5/2 valve and the mainline/compressor. Do I? I would have though a compressor or an airline in a lab would have provided a suitably high flow rate and stable pressure air supply...

What do you think?

Thanks

F

RE: pressure reservoir needed

Is your double acting high speed cylinder a type of common labratory equipment?  If so maybe yes.  If not, get a compressor.

RE: pressure reservoir needed

Whether or not your need a accumulator between airline/compressor and valve depends upon how fast your cylinder shall move and - as this determines the air volume which needs to be provided in a certain time - what flow the airline/compressor can provide without accumulator.
