duplicating nearly identical drawings

duplicating nearly identical drawings

duplicating nearly identical drawings

(OP)
Hi,

In order to save time, is it possible to duplicate drawings but with a different "lookalike" part.
Example: I have 5 plates, dimensions 100x100, 200x200, 150x100, 150x150 and 250x250.
If I make one drawing of the first plate with all the dimensions on it, is it possible to duplicate this drawing and replace the first plate with the second one, etc..?

Thanks,

Jimmy

RE: duplicating nearly identical drawings

Are you using master model, or is the drawing and model in the same file?

Hi Jerry,

I'm using a master model. The client provides me the model of the total installation, I just have to make all the drawings of the model.
The installations are more or less the same, so I could save a lot of time if I could copy some of these drawings. Also sometimes they have a right and left part, but with only minor differences between the two.
Now I have to make these drawings twice, and I have to make sure that the second drawing looks the same as the first one (because that is less confusing for the people who will have to use the drawings).
I also work with Solidworks, and there you can open an existing drawing file, but make a reference to another part, I was hoping I could do the same with NX.

Thanks,

Jimmy

RE: duplicating nearly identical drawings

Make a drawing of 1 of the plates, and set it up exactly the way you want it.  Save that part.

Then go to your palette, right click on the part/model referenced.  There should be an option to replace referenced part. Select the model you wish to now reference.  Save that reattach any floating dimensions, and save with a different file name.

Repeat as necessary smile
