Calculate shaft diameters
Calculate shaft diameters
(OP)
I have a fixed compound geartrain design consisting of an input gear of 44teeth, a second and third gear joined on a layshaft with 14 and 44 teeth respecively and an output gear of 14 teeth. GR1=44 GR2=14 GR3=44 GR4=14.
My question is how do i work out appropriate shaft diameters when a torque of 480Nm is on gear 1? I have worked out the gear geometry: pcd, module all that stuff.
Iv'e not worked out the speeds yet i also have ideas for bearings but i need the shaft diameters to work out suitable sizes, any ideas? textbooks? calculations?.
thanks

RE: Calculate shaft diameters
The most basic consideration with gear shaft diameter is the limit imposed by the smallest gear's root diameter dimension.
That would be a good start. Then you must consider the combined shaft stresses from bending and torsion.
Good luck.
