Molten sulpher storage tanks

Molten sulpher storage tanks

Molten sulpher storage tanks

(OP)
What Code or Standard could be used for design of molten sulpher storage tanks?

Thank you.

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

Are these tanks internally pressurized at or above 15 psig and what size?

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

For flat-bottom near-atmospheric tanks up to 500 degrees F, API-650 can be used.

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

You might want to mention that Appendix M of API-650 must be consulted for tha maximum temperature

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

I'll ask a question of the members who speak API with respect to tanks (my API experience is very little and very long ago.)

If the tank is jacketed (for steam above 15 psig), does API cover that too, or does one have to get into ASME for the jacketing?  I know the answer with respect to jacketing alone, but not if it is an integral part of the tank shell

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

Over 15 psig puts the jacket into the ASME VIII realm.  Tank proper might still be handled as API, but would make much better sense to handle the entire assembly as ASME.  Unless this tank is under 20-feet in diameter, are you sure that external jacket is prefferable to the standard heating coils?

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

The original poster didn't say anything about size, configuration, pressure, or geographical location, so there's not much telling on how the heating provisions work.

RE: Molten sulpher storage tanks

The OP has un-marked the thread and looking at his/her history has never replied to any of the other 3 threads started, so.... well, we've been here before, havent we?  It seems like deja vu all over again.

I guess anybody's guess is about as good as anyone else's, right.
