I am currently testing an oil separation technology and need a way of quantifying the amount of oil and grease left over. I know the standard is the hexane extraction method, but I was wondering if anyone had knowledge of an acid split test. I have heard, in passing, of a method to add concentrated sulfuric acid to a sample in a graduated cylinder or babcock bottle and being able to read oil concentration. Does anyone have a protocol on how to do this, or additional information?
Thank you, Joel
