Yeah, so?  I've never seen a pipeline cut that didn't do that.  I would have "counselled" the foreman to have the welder sit on the constrained end, but throwing a welder in the air is reasonably common.

35 yrs of 1104 cross country pipeline rig welding and was never "tossed" or saw anyone bucked off a pipe by cutting a constrained pipe.

Guess the crew I was around used common sense.

With that rather large excavator's bucket holding down the overbend, what the hell did they expect.
