Web compression buckling question?

Web compression buckling question?

Web compression buckling question?

(OP)
Hi guys,

I would like to double check a simple question, please see attached sketchs, in figure 1., we need to check web compression buckling, that's for sure, no question. But in figure 2. situation, Do we also need to check web compression buckling at dashed line location? I feel we still need to check. What is your thoughts?

Thanks for your response.

RE: Web compression buckling question?

Look at AISC 360-05 - look at the spec chapter that deals with concentrated forces on WF's.  The second illustration smacks more of sidesway web buckling to me.  This would actually be at all three point loads, not just the center point load.

RE: Web compression buckling question?

Web compression buckling needs to be checked when you have concentrated loads at both flanges.  In your second case, you only have them at one flange.  You do not need to check it here.
