ASME A860 Material

(OP)
Looking at a job requiring the welding of ASME A860 pipe fittings to Api5l X42 pipe. Please educate me on the preferred welding consumables and procedures of choice. I am familiar with X42 material, I know very little about A860.

RE: ASME A860 Material

ASTM A 860 is a specification for High Strength Low Alloy Steel Butt Welded Fittings. There are various grades of fittings, WPHY 42, 46, 52, 60... Which grade are you working with WPHY 42, as the pipe?

I would strongly suggest you obtain a copy of this ASTM specification because it deals with weld repair and selection of consumables for welding. You will most likely need to perform a post weld heat treatment, and selection of the PWHT temperature is critical to  avoid altering the original base material properties.
