I was wondering if anyone could recommend the best alloy to use for sand casting that will give the greatest as cast strength? 319 seems to be the one to go with but any input?

RE: best as cast strength aluminium alloy

dtdynamics,

Do you mean "as cast", without any further heat treatment?

With heat treatment, sand cast 357-T6 has much better properties than 319.  If you need good hot strength A201-T7 can be sand cast (with some difficulty).

Hope that helps.
Terry

yes i meant out of the mold without any heat treatment as i dont have a kiln or that to perform any heat treating.

RE: best as cast strength aluminium alloy

AA 535 (Almag 35) 35ksi min.
AA 713 (Tenzaloy) 32ksi min.
AA 707 (Ternalloy 7) 33ksi min.
AA 705 (Ternalloy 5) 30 ksi min.

These tensiles are for as cast (condition F) sand castings, with the exception of the latter 3, which develop maximum strength after 21 days at room temperature.
