Metallurgy services for steel analysis?

Metallurgy services for steel analysis?

Metallurgy services for steel analysis?

(OP)
Can anyone recommend a metallurgy service that can do an analysis on a steel alloy?  I'm welding to an automotive steel forging, and I would just like to know the carbon content to have an idea of how I should weld it.  The testing can be destructive, as I have a small (1x1x2") part of the forging that's been cut off that I can ship.

RE: Metallurgy services for steel analysis?

Exova is definitely worth a try, I've had a lot of weird and wonderful things analysed there and they haven't got it wrong yet.

I will also second Stork.  I've dealt primarily with their facility in North Carolina, and the turnaround time is excellent.

I have used West Penn testing Laboratory Services
in New Kensington, PA  Excellent quality, excellent
service!!
