Grouping Sketch Entities

Grouping Sketch Entities

Grouping Sketch Entities

(OP)
Hi, my first post!

I'm a recent Pro/E convert from Solidworks due to a job change. I'm trying to draw things such as company logo in sketcher. In solidworks it was possible to 'group' entities like in AutoCAD and move them around as a whole.

Is there a way of doing something similar in ProE to avoid having to dimension every entity in a sketch? Ideally I'd like to have a group of entities which don't move relative to each other and you can dimension its position using one reference point or edge.

Thanks!

RE: Grouping Sketch Entities

What version of Pro/E are you using?

For things like logos you will probably want to create a symbol so you can easily pull it whenever you need it.  In WF5 to create a symbol go to the Annotate tab and click Symbol Gallery under the Format section.  You can choose to copy lines from your drawing to the symbol.  You will also need to write the symbol to the symbol directory when done (done in the sidebar menu).

To create a draft group got to Edit>Draft Group then select create, and select the entities for the group.

Thanks for the reply, using WF3 currently.

I managed to get the sketch profile of my logo into my sketcher palette and use it that way. There is no Edit>Draft Group that I can find though.

I was looking for something like AutoCAD 'block' which remain as is until you purposely edit them. It seems as soon as you insert a sketch profile from the palette it adds the weak dimensions. This leaves it open to accidental modification by changing a dimension or accidental dragging of lines etc. You have to move the whole profile using the edit>scale and rotate command having selected all the lines.

The sketch palette is an OK solution, sounds like WF5 symbols is similar.

Thanks again.

RE: Grouping Sketch Entities

Symbols are most like Acad blocks.  You don't need any dimensions and you can scale them, rotate them, etc.
