solenoid failure

solenoid failure

solenoid failure

(OP)
Hi,

Im wondering if anyone has any experience with or knowledge about solenoids activating involuntarily. For instance, if a solenoid was used to close the circuit to activate a pump, is there any way (due to extreme conditions like submerged in salt water, physical damage etc.) that the solenoid could cause the pump to engage without the armature moving due to a magnetic field.

Thanks in advance,

Earl

RE: solenoid failure

Short answer is no, however your question is very open ended with no detail for example, condition or type and brand of solenoid. There are many variables or possible causes including the control circuit involved.

Sorry,  I'm not very well versed in the electrical department. The model is a saw 4227 12V, metal case solenoid, in decent shape. The circuit is simple, the solenoid is activated by a switch which connects the battery to the solenoid. The solenoid conects the battery to the pump. Could the pump turn on, without flipping the switch from the battery to the solenoid.
thanks again

RE: solenoid failure

More likely a problem with the switch rather than the solenoid.  Yes, it's possible.
