drawing file creation date

drawing file creation date

drawing file creation date

(OP)
I use the file creation date in my drawing frame. I create a drawing, it gets the date I created it. That date stays there unchanged for subsequent edits. This is what I want to fix the time scale of our work.

When I create a very similar drawing, I want to copy an existing drawing (and the part it references) and give it a new number. But it retains the creation date of the original file (even though its a file that didn't exist on that date). Thats not what I want in my drawing frame, I want the new creation date.

I have to create a new drawing and copy all the views and notes into that to get a new date. Thats a pain.

Can I copy and paste all views and notes into the same positions on a new drawing? - seems not - they come up in some sort of random position based on origin and mouse clicks, or I get a "you can't paste that sort of thing here" message.  Maybe there is a technique that works?
Maybe its possible with a macro?
Can I do the whole new drawing creation with a macro?
Wish I had time to work out all that macro stuff.

I bet I can use some sort of windows bodge outside SW to change a file creation date, a bit of a cheat solution.

RE: drawing file creation date

Reload the format in the new drawing, the new date will show up. This can be made part of your macro.

RE: drawing file creation date

In our Part and Assembly templates we have several custom properties including Model Date and Modeled By.  In our Drawing template, in the title block, we reference these custom properties so they automatically show up.  They reference the properties of the part or assembly that is shown on that drawing sheet - no macro needed.  See attached images of our custom properties.
