Altair HyperWorks v10: Problems while postprocessing w/ HyperView

Altair HyperWorks v10: Problems while postprocessing w/ HyperView

Altair HyperWorks v10: Problems while postprocessing w/ HyperView

(OP)
Hi,

I have some problems while postprocessing a job with hyperview. I want to extract some 2D Forces in shell elements and for some reason the solver, NASTRAN, re-connected my shell elements in such a way, that the normal vector of shell elms in the same plane isn't consistent anymore. This leads to a strange result for the visualization of the output: neighbouring elems have quite the same absolute value but opposite signs.

When post-processing with PATRAN there is one option where you can define to view your output in the elem. material coordinate system, which is consistent for all elems in the same plane and therefore provideds the "right" results (smooth color transitions).

Does anyone know if there is such option in HYPERVIEW?
I also tried to compute my output from NASTRAN in the material coordinate system while adjusting parameters such as:
CURV,1
S1M,1

(i left out BIGER, NUMOUT, SRTOPT, SRTELTYP since i don't know if they are necessary at all, and some trails did not deliver any different results)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Phil

Ok,

I didn't really make progress on the porblem, but I can specify the problem now a bit more and hope someone can figure out how to solve it.

So the problem that i have is that when i calculate element forces of 2D shell elements and want to have a visualization of the membrane forces, for x, y and xy I get a non consistent color pattern over my mesh. The reason for that is that each element (CQUAD4 in NASTRAN) has its own element system, according to the nodes that describe each element. So each element has its own coordinate system and therefore for all elements the x-axis, for example, are not orientated in the same way. So when I ask Hyperview to display me membrane forces in x-direction, for some it shows values that correspond to the global y-axis and for some others the global -x-axis, but not for the requested +x-axis, because their local x-axis differs from the global one. I also set my material system according to the global one, but that didn't show any effect.
Does anyone know, how I can set my elem. system according to the material system or how to tell NASTRAN to compute 2D element forces in the material system, not in the element system.

Cheers.
