Allowable load per mm of weld in AS.

Allowable load per mm of weld in AS.

(OP)

I thought some time ago I saw a table showing allowable load per mm in an Australian Standard. Not sure if it was AS3990, AS4100 or another. Can someone please tell me if they have seen it, and which standard it is in?

Regards.

RE: Allowable load per mm of weld in AS.

I don't know about the Australian standard, but a table entitled "Factored Shear Resistance on Effective Throat per Millimetre of Weld Length) appears as Table 3-23 in the CISC Handbook for various electrode classifications.

Table 3-24 shows "Factored Shear Resistance of Fillet Welds per Millimetre of Weld Length when Angle θ = 0" for various fillet weld sizes and various electrode classifications.

Table 3-25 includes values for various angles using E49XX electrodes.

It could be somewhere else but I know its in the back of the "Design Capacity Tables: Volume 1) published by the australian steel institute. Its in chapter 9 (connections)

As handex said;

Tables are in the DCT, and are based on AS4100.
There are no tables in any AS that I'm aware of.

There was a publication titled "Design of Structural Connections, 4th Ed" published by the Australian Steel Institute. The publication is widely known in the industry as the "Green Book" because of it's green cover.

The tables are based on E48XX electrodes. There has been some reluctance for the Australia industry to go to E49XX electrodes.

there are also some in the back of the AISC steel connections handbook but I am not sure that they are up to date.

Using AISC, the design strength is 1.392 kips/inch for 70 Ksi electrodes.
