Hi,
Anybody can guide me that "UT be performed prior to PWHT for a vessel fabricated from P1 materials - ASME VIII Div1?"
Your prompt reply will be highly appriciated!

RE: Time Of UT

Do you mean where is is stated in ASME VIII Div 1? And whether this would be the only NDE applied, i.e no NDE after PWHT?

Well it is feasible. Unlike P3, P4 and P5 materials which must have final NDE after PWHT, there is no requirement as to when P1 materials are subject to NDE. So the complete NDE procedure - examine, repair re-examine and clear can be performed prior to PWHT.

But if RT is also to be performed post PWHT then as per UCS-56(f) as long as PWHT is not a service requirement then for P1 materials repairs can be made without subsequent PWHT.

There is no requirement for the above in the Code, only that NDT be performed.

RE: Time Of UT

Adding to comments by metengr, if UT is used in lieu of RT, it must be done per Code Case 2235-9.
