What is a fan gate.

I would like to know what a fan gate is and will it work on a plastic part.  Is there an advantage if is will work on plastic molds.

Please respond.

RE: What is a fan gate.

A fan gate is a gate that "fans out" in one direction while narrowing to quite small in the other direction. both directions transverse to the flow.  This is used ro avoid "jetting" whrn the part is shot and to spread the material out as it flows into the cavity when a flow like that is judged neccessary.

RE: What is a fan gate.

Fan gates are also useful in aplications that have a high flow length to wall thickness ratio ..... and long flat parts that could be prone to distortion. They can be considered a step between a tab gate and a film gate. But as Insideman says will also help solve jetting problems.

Be careful what you use them on as with some materials they can be a wast of time.

Whats the application ?
