Air flow rate

Air flow rate

Air flow rate

(OP)
On every leaf blower available, the package indicates a maximum air flow rate.  I would like to determine the validity of these claims.  Any suggestions on the best means of doing so?

RE: Air flow rate

I believe the equation for air pressure, say in a pitot tube is P=0.00256 * V^2  where (V=mph, and P=psf).

You may be able to rig up a monometer with plastic tubing, and say a funnel to direct the air into and calucate the head pressure in inches of water...and convert back to V.

Maybe??

RE: Air flow rate

Cut circular hole on top of the nozzle, install a hopper filled with ping pong balls, and get a radar gun.

RE: Air flow rate

Wind tunnel and some CO2 ice, or .. a very big cigar.

Hot wire anemometer?

Good luck,

RE: Air flow rate

Get a big plastic bag, measure the volume, empty the inside air and then blow it with the fan while taking the time. You get your answer by doing a bit of simple math. The method is called ABFM, W version (Advance Bag Flow Measurement, Waterpipe version).

The method basis is available at:
