(OP)
is it possible to take a finished metric drawing in UG and convert all the dimensions to English/SAE without re-dimensioning the whole part?

RE: converting drawings

Open the drawing file in Drafting, set the 'Type Filter' to 'Dimension', either push the 'Select All' icon on the Selection Bar or click and drag the entire Drawing.  Now place your cursor over one of the highlighted Dimensions, press MB3 and select 'Style' and when the dialog comes up start with the 'Units' tab and in the middle of the dialog change the units from 'Millimeters' to 'Inches'.  Also check the Leading/Trailing Zeros settings.  Now go back to the 'Dimensions' tab and make sure that the alignment style is what you want as well as the number of decimal places and so on.  Once all the settings are as you wish them to be, NOW hot the OK or Apply button and you should be good to go.
