Thermal Degradation Question

Thermal Degradation Question

Thermal Degradation Question

(OP)
I have a 2" structural carbon steel plate that has been inadvertently stress relieved for 12 hours at 1200°F.
The composition and properties approximate A36.

Before cutting it, how much spheroidization might I expect?  I suspect that a repeat tensile test may be in order.

RE: Thermal Degradation Question

I would strongly recommend a tensile test because you will see some degradation in tensile properties. I would bet for  12 hours at temperature you would see noticable spheroidization.

I thought as much - thanks for the confirmation.
