ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

(OP)
i am ordering my own led grow lights from China, i found a manufacturer who has great specs and pricing. they have CE approval, what do i need to do to be alright to sell these...

lights are 90-1,000 watts @ 120 volt.

1. do i need UL?

2. do i need to brand the light? how?

RE: ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

You should have an NRTL listing, UL or ETL or TUV or CSA or MET.

Branding is a marketing choice.

RE: ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

You need many things before UL comes into the picture.. First thing is to start a company.. And make sure its the right kind of company so that when one of your lights fails (and it happens) that the user can't sue you and take your house away from you.
Google starting your own business and read..read..read. then find an attorney. then apply for a business license,etc...

And there is a large quality difference in cheapo led's from China and other led sources (like CREE).

CE (in my opinion) means NOTHING as this is self certification and many times has no real world NRTL testing to back it up.

RE: ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

Many China products have CE Marking but if you read the Standard, they don t apply many year ago. if you buy some China products in Europe they have UL mark to.
But in China you can have good products too.

RE: ORDERING LIGHTS FROM CHINA, DO I NEED UL?

Ah, but don't forget -- CE marking is not recognized as compliance tested by any nationally recognized testing laboratory.  It doesn't fly for safety certification in the US for electrical or fire-safety related products.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave
