LS DYNA / Butterfly Meshing / Shock Wave Propagation

(OP)

Hello,

I am relatively new to ALE analyses.  I am planning to study shock wave propagation using LS DYNA's ALE capabilities.  I've been reading the literature and have come across some "buzz words" that I would like to know more about.  For instance, what is butterfly meshing?  Is it possible to create detailed air meshes in LS PrePost, or is it more efficient to create the mesh manually?  Any general guidance regarding shock wave modeling in LS DYNA or even some helpful links to tutorials for LS PrePost would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
