Stress concentration Factors
Stress concentration Factors
(OP)
I am trying to figure out the actual stress for a pipe that is fillet welded to a plate. The pipe is cantileved off of the plate and loaded at the end. So, the largest stress is located at the weld.
Can anybody direct me to some literature that explains how to handle this? I assume there are charts where I could read off a stress concentration factor? The materials are both stainless steels for the pipe and plate.

Another approach is used one of the many available weld size calculators.

When dealing with welds, however, published data don't quite address real-world problems like undercut, which can drastically increase your SCF. Typically in the configuration described, fatigue fracture will initiate at a weld toe and propagate through base metal.
