Increase steam strpping efficiency
Increase steam strpping efficiency
(OP)
I have a process where I am steam stripping an ABE fermentation in the reaction vessel it was run in. I have had success in doing this it is just that it takes quite a while and I would like to decrease this time. I wanted to know a good way to possibly distribute the steam inside the vessel or some piece of equipment that would do this in order to get more contact area with the product throughout the vessel. Any Ideas?

RE: Increase steam strpping efficiency
1. how to calculate liquid flow through manual valve such as ball valve (assume we don't know pressure drop of valve, only opening valve we know)
2. there is valve (control valve) with specification like this, equal percentage opening, 2 " ID, actuated by 6 to 30 psig air to open.
the question is, how do i calculate flow on valve?
note : valve supplier couldn't show CV vs flow valve characteristic data.
can i assume (or predict) flow liquid on valve based on output control valve?
thank for respond

RE: Increase steam strpping efficiency
Packed or trayed columns are normal equipment for steam stripping.

RE: Increase steam strpping efficiency
Try running agitator while steaming
Run steam or hot condensate through your cooling coils/jacket
Run your steam through the air sparger
Allow the batch temperature to take off towards the end
Pull vacuum on the fermentor
I don't think you are going to save any energy by batch stripping verse tower. In fact it will be opposite since batch steam stripping is much less efficient
