Recommended Hardware for NX7.5 in 2011

Recommended Hardware for NX7.5 in 2011

I did a quick search for recommended hardware and what turned up seems pretty dated. There has also been mention that "game cards" are not recommended for NX.
Does that still hold true today? We're looking at getting some new systems, probably Dell, and even a decent XPS with an i7, and 12Gb ram comes with a Radeon 5870 (a game card).
Also, would someone have a link to "Certified Hardware" at UGS? Searching there turned up too many pages to wad through; some for info regarding NX 5 neutral.

RE: Recommended Hardware for NX7.5 in 2011

Software / hardware recommendations NX6, NX7.5:
Operating system: Windows 7 pro. x64
Video Card: Nvidia FX580 are certified Fx1800 Fx 3800
At least 8GB of RAM
Processor - up to dual processor in some functions of Nx
currently supported, multi-processor cores from 2 to bring up anything for NX

For Dell, use their Precision Workstation line, like the T7500.
Nvidia cards seem to be better than ATI.

And YES, so-called 'game cards' are NOT recommended.

Years ago, the first 'game cards' were based on modified professional cards and just mass marketed at a deep discount for the gamers (who were mostly kids with limited budgets) and if you were careful you could modify them back to their professional level of support.  Unfortunately, the game segment of the market is now large enough to warrant dedicated designs and so there is no longer any practical way to force a game card to behave like a professional card, which generally means that it needs to fully support OpenGL, something not needed by gaming software but which is still a prerequisite for most all CAD systems, NX included.
