Motor selection for lead screw system with pulleys or gears

Motor selection for lead screw system with pulleys or gears

Motor selection for lead screw system with pulleys or gears

(OP)
Hello,

The torque required to move the load on my lead screw (with safety factor of 1.9) is ~250 oz-in.

I need the lead screw to rotate at 1500 rpm (To achieve the required linear speed of 2.5 in/sec, with a 1/2"-10 acme screw)

My initial thought was to directly connect an electric motor to the lead screw.  However, motors that can achieve direct output of 1500 rpm and 250 oz-in torque are slightly too expensive.

I would like to explore a pulley or gear based connection from a motor to the lead screw, but have no idea where to start.

Any advice or direction will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Sean

Get a catalog from Browning or Martin Sprocket & Gear.
Read it all.

You will need the same power either way.
