Stainless Steel Pipe Fitting Weld Prep

Stainless Steel Pipe Fitting Weld Prep

Stainless Steel Pipe Fitting Weld Prep

(OP)
I work in a pipe shop and one of our core competencies is to weld steel pipe fittings to pipe, creating various spool pieces. A problem that we frequently encounter involves weld prep of the fittings. Many of the suppliers we use (Taylor Forge for example) have products that are fairly inconsistent. The lands are inconsistent across the circumference of the fitting end, and the inside diameter near the weld edge usually has a slight egg shape. I understand that this unavoidable in the manufacturing process of steel pipe fittings. However, I would like to locate a supplier who offers a better quality product. I've seen a few fittings before in which the supplier machines the bevel & land, and also bores the I.D. of the fitting so that the product is consistent. The fitting I saw recently had 'Austria' stamped on the side, but did not have a supplier name.

Does anyone know of any suppliers that offer fittings with machined ends as a standard product offering? I'm sure they cost a bit more, but we will make up for that in labor savings from doing weld prep. Any info on such a supplier would be greatly appreciated!

RE: Stainless Steel Pipe Fitting Weld Prep

Get out the checkbook and you'll find some. To expensive for me though, so sorry, I don't know who you should contact, although most machine shops will be happy to take on milling out any flange/fitting you want to drop to them.
